|Jointly hosted by the HKSAR Government and Hong Kong Council of Social Service, and co-organized with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, the 3-day Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) 2017, the first of its kind in Hong Kong was successfully concluded on 18 June 2017.|
|Through exhibition, thematic forums and workshops showcasing latest innovative products and ideas of technology application, GIES 2017 provided a platform drawing together stakeholders to engage in dialogue and collaboration in driving policy changes as well as societal and economic developments in Hong Kong to embrace opportunities brought about by population ageing.|

|2017 Policy Address New Initiative on Promoting Gernotechnology in Hong Kong
In her maiden policy address in 2017, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Mrs Carrier Lam pledged "To proactively promote gernotechnology for improving the quality of elderly persons and reduce the burden and pressure of carers and care staff, the Government will earmark $1 billion for setting up a fund to subsidise elderly service units to trial use and procure technology products. The initiative will also cover rehabilitation service units."
