Wearable exosuit to assist lifting

Function(s):
The exoskeleton is designed to assist care workers in lifting patients or objects throughout the day. This device reduces the burden on the worker’s back when lifting or lowering, protecting their spine and lower limb while reducing the chance of low back pain, and improving the overall endurance of the worker. By using a motor system, the device can provide real time assistance depending on the need of the worker which includes walking assistance. The exoskeleton is designed to have a low cost of production to increase its appeal to care homes or individuals by utilizing 3D printing technology. This design option also reduces the overall weight of the system, leading to an assistance level that is three times greater than the weight of the device. Further cost reduction may be achieved by having an easily changeable motor design, allowing entities to select a motor which can suit their needs and meets their price point. Experimental assessment has shown the exoskeleton can reduce the user’s back muscle effort to lift a 15kg load by up to 36%, which may effectively reduce the chance of low back pain and increase the endurance of the worker.
