Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road (Hong Kong Adventist) is the first private hospital in Hong Kong to fully implement the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI). The IDDSI was established by the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative organisation to provide clear guidance for caregivers and healthcare professionals when preparing meals for patients with swallowing difficulties, thereby improving dietary safety for such patients.
Since the beginning of its implementation, Hong Kong Adventist has continued to deepen the application of IDDSI and carefoods. At the service level within the hospital, Hong Kong Adventist has established more detailed, individualized, and easy-to-implement assessment methods with fewer errors according to IDDSI (especially for IDDSI Level 5 and Level 6). IDDSI and carefoods are fully adopted in nursing procedures, swallowing assessments (VFSS, FEES), and therapeutic treatments.
In terms of Medical Social Collaboration, Hong Kong Adventist is committed to adopting new frameworks, teaching materials, and resources to help patients continue to eat safely and nutritiously after being discharged to their homes or elderly care homes.
