Elderly people with dysphagia need to eat soft meals. Making soft meals requires certain nutrition knowledge and cooking skills to ensure that the soft meals are attractive, and can provide sufficient nutritients to patients. Patients with dysphagia may face different chronic diseases at the same time, and therefore need to specially plan soft meals. Common diseases, for examples, are diabetes, cholesterol, constipation, unintentional weight loss, renal disease, etc. The Hong Kong Community Dietitian Association will provide nutrition education handouts which can upskill caregivers to provide patients with soft meals that are tasty and nutritious. The Hong Kong Community Nutritionists Association also regularly organizes comprehensive practical courses on soft meal nutrition and preparation. Participants can learn more if they are interested.
