The Japan Miki Electric Assist Wheelchair (CRT-ES-2) is one of the few electric assist wheelchairs designed with consideration for downhill support needs. Most wheelchairs only provide assistance for uphill movement but overlook the need to offer resistance when going downhill, which is essential for caregivers. For passengers with heavier body weight, caregivers often have to lower their center of gravity and lean back, using body strength and manual braking to prevent the wheelchair from speeding downhill. In addition to providing uphill assistance, the CRT-ES-2 is equipped with an "electronic braking" system that detects brake pressure and automatically sends electronic signals to control the tire brakes, relying mainly on electronic rather than physical braking to significantly reduce physical strain for caregivers. Furthermore, the "automatic stop" safety system with electronic sensors ensures that, even if an elderly or inexperienced caregiver accidentally releases the handles when going downhill, the system will immediately detect this and automatically stop the wheelchair, preventing the wheelchair from speeding down and ensuring the safety of both the passenger and the caregiver.
